If you reside in Oviedo and need the assistance of a Seminole
County family law attorney or divorce lawyer... We Can Help You
Divorce, child support, child custody, and other family law related cases are usually filed in the county where both parties reside. As you know, Oviedo is located in Seminole County, Florida. Therefore, if you and your spouse reside in Oviedo, your Oviedo divorce, alimony, child custody, modification, visitation, child support, relocation, juvenile, or other family law related case, would usually be filed with the Court in Seminole County.
Like in the examples noted above, if you live in Oviedo and the other party lives in another city located in Seminole County, your Oviedo family law case would typically still be filed with the Seminole County Court.

However, if you live in Oviedo and the other party lives in a city that is not located in Seminole County, your Oviedo
divorce or other type of family law case could be filed in Seminole County, but would not necessarily have to be filed in Seminole County.

Likewise, if you are the unmarried parent of a child and you and the other parent reside in Oviedo, your Oviedo child custody, modification, visitation, relocation, paternity, child support, juvenile dependency, or other family law related case, would usually be filed with the Court in Seminole County.

But remember, it is the county of residence not the city of residence, as noted above, which determines where a divorce or other
family law related case should be filed. And of course, for purposes of determining where a family law case should be filed, the marital status of the parties is not a relevant factor.

The city of Oviedo was named by its first postmaster, Andrew Aulin. Aulin, who was born in Sweden, was an early settler and shop owner in the Lake Jesup community, part of which became the city of Oviedo.

In 1879, residents of the soon to be named Oviedo area needed an easily accessible post office and Aulin decided to file the requisite paperwork. Aulin wanted a unique name for the post office and wanted a Spanish name that would go with the Spanish name of the state.

He decided to name the post office Oviedo after the University of Oviedo located in northern Spain. Some say Aulin actually visited the University of Oviedo. However, others say he just liked the sound of the Spanish pronunciation of "Oviedo."

Regardless of whether Aulin visited the University of Oviedo or not, the residents kept the Oviedo name, and in 1925 incorporated the city of Oviedo. At that time, Oviedo had roughly 800 residents. Today, the city of Oviedo has over thirty four thousand residents.

Moreover, if you live in Oviedo and the other party lives in another state, your Oviedo family law case could be filed in Seminole County if the jurisdictional requirements are met. Nevertheless, the authority of the Seminole County Court may be limited in those circumstances where any children related to the family law case are located in the other state.
