Maybe it would not be safe to return to your country right now
due to an ongoing armed conflict or a natural disaster and you
are in need of Temporary Protected Status to continue to live
in Longwood for a while. Or maybe you are in need of other
immigration relief.
Perhaps you have encountered some obstacles that may affect
your legal permanent residence / green card even though you
have lived in Longwood for some time.
Or perhaps you are in need of political asylum because you
were harmed in your country by the government or by a group
the government could not or would not control.
You may already know that if a person who lives in Longwood needs to file a civil case, the case would likely be filed in
Seminole County because Longwood is located in Seminole County. Likewise, if a person is accused of a crime in Longwood,
the case would likely be filed in Seminole County.
However, in Immigration Court there is no rule like the above regarding where your deportation case will be heard. That is
because deportation cases are heard wherever the government files the charges. Obviously, this can create serious problems.

For instance, if someone who resides in Longwood is pulled
over for speeding and the immigration authorities later take
custody of the person, immigration can move them to a
detention facility in California, Texas, or anywhere in the
United States, and file the case there.

Longwood was named by one of its early settlers, Edward Warren Henck, who arrived in Florida by steamboat in
the 1870's. Henck named Longwood after a suburb in Boston which he had previously helped plat. Interestingly,
the Boston suburb of Longwood was named after the district on the island of Saint Helena where Napoleon
Bonaparte was exiled from 1815 to his death in 1821.
Henck was instrumental in Longwood's development. He was the first postmaster of the Longwood Post Office
which was established in 1876. Henck also led the charge in the construction of the railroad that connected
Sanford to Orlando and which first ran in 1880.
Henck was elected as Longwood's first mayor in 1885. His 38 room Longwood Hotel, which was constructed by
Joseph Clouser, was completed in 1886. The Longwood Hotel, also known as the Longwood Village Inn, was
added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
Longwood was incorporated as a city in 1923 and today, Longwood has a population of over thirteen thousand.
